Terms of use

Full disclaimer

Read this before using Praxical.Psych for anything that touches a real person. It is short, it is not boilerplate, and every clause is here because the alternative would be a genuine hazard.

In full

  1. 1

No medical, clinical or psychological advice

Praxical.Psych provides general educational information about psychotherapy for people studying or training in it. It does not provide medical, clinical or psychological advice, diagnosis or treatment, and it must not be used as a basis for clinical decisions about any identifiable person. It does not know your patient, your setting, your caseload or your competence.

  2. 2

    No legal advice

Content touching on confidentiality, duty to warn or protect, mandated reporting, consent, capacity, record-keeping, retention, privilege, subpoenas, licensure and scope of practice is a description of how clinicians are generally taught to reason about these questions. It is not legal advice and is not a statement of the law anywhere. Requirements differ substantially between countries, states and provinces, differ by profession and role within the same jurisdiction, and change. Where a legal question arises, consult your regulator, your employer's counsel, or a lawyer.

  3. 3

Not therapy, not supervision, not a credential

Using Praxical.Psych is not receiving psychotherapy and is not being supervised. Completing every unit, session and drill in it confers no qualification, registration, licence, competence or entitlement to practise. Competence to practise comes from accredited training, supervised clinical hours, and licensure or registration with the relevant body.

  4. 4

    No professional relationship is created

Nothing in Praxical.Psych creates a clinician–patient, therapist–client, supervisor–supervisee or solicitor–client relationship between you and the authors, publishers or distributors of this software, or anyone cited in it.

  5. 5

    Everyone here is fictional

Every patient, family, case history, transcript, dialogue and simulated session is a fictional composite written for teaching. None depicts a real person or a real consultation, and any resemblance to a real individual is coincidental. The scored "right answers" in the simulator are teaching judgements about a constructed scenario, not clinical direction about any real situation.

  6. 6

The evidence is summarised, dated, and contested in places

Effect sizes, trial findings, guideline positions and regulatory status are compressions of heterogeneous literatures at a knowledge horizon of 2026. They may be superseded, and some are contested by competent people at the time of writing. Fast-moving areas — psychedelic-assisted therapies, digital interventions, regulatory approvals — should be checked against current primary sources before they inform anything.

  7. 7

    Instruments and measures

Scorable instruments are reproduced only where they are in the public domain or freely licensed. Scores generated here are for learning how the instrument behaves. They are not a diagnosis and not a risk assessment, they have not been administered under the conditions the instrument was validated for, and they must not be used to make decisions about a real person. The alliance instrument in this app was written for Praxical.Psych as a teaching exercise and is not a validated measure — use a properly licensed instrument in practice.

  8. 8

Risk content is teaching material, not a protocol

The risk assessment, safety planning, duty-to-protect and mandated reporting material teaches a structure of reasoning. It is not your service's protocol, it is not exhaustive, and it does not replace local policy, consultation or clinical judgement. No instrument or framework, here or anywhere, reliably predicts suicide at the level of the individual.

  9. 9

Your data, and what this is not

Everything you type is stored in your browser's local storage. There is no server, no account and no analytics, and nothing is transmitted. That also means it is not backed up, not encrypted beyond whatever your device provides, and not a compliant clinical record system under HIPAA, UK GDPR, or any comparable regime. Do not enter real patient information. Anyone with access to this browser profile can read it. Export from Progress if your work matters to you.

  10. 10

No warranty, and limits on liability

Praxical.Psych is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy or non-infringement. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the authors and distributors accept no liability for any loss or damage arising from use of, or reliance on, this material. You remain professionally and legally responsible for your own clinical decisions.

  11. 11

    If you are struggling yourself

Studying this material can bring things up, and that is ordinary. Praxical.Psych is not a source of help for your own distress. Before you begin

What Praxical.Psych is, and is not

Praxical.Psych is an educational tool. It teaches the theory, evidence base and clinical method of psychotherapy at the level of an advanced survey course, and it lets you rehearse a complete session in a simulator.

It is not medical, clinical, psychological or legal advice. It cannot diagnose or treat anyone, and it does not state the law where you practise — requirements differ by jurisdiction and change. Nothing here creates a clinician–patient or solicitor–client relationship.

  • Every patient, transcript and case in this app is fictional — a composite written for teaching. None depicts a real person.
  • Praxical.Psych is not therapy, not a substitute for supervision, and not a credential. Competence to practise comes from training, supervised hours and licensure.
  • Scores from the instruments here are for learning how they behave. They are not a diagnosis and not a risk assessment, and must not inform a decision about a real person.
  • Do not enter real patient information. Everything you type stays in this browser, but that is not the same as a compliant clinical record system.
