A cut-point of 3 gives sensitivity around 0.83 and specificity around 0.90 for major depression. Designed as the first stage of a two-stage screen, not as a severity measure.
Cautions and misuse
Never use as a stand-alone outcome measure — two items cannot track change with adequate precision. Its only sound use is triage.
